Bergen is always a favorite among visitors coming to Norway. Known as the “Gateway to the Fjords,” Bergen offers breathtaking landscapes and a wide variety of experiences. It’s the second-largest city in Norway and sits nestled between two fjords, one of which is Norway’s longest fjord, Sognefjord. This combination of urban living and nature is what makes Bergen so special and is also what makes camping in Bergen so popular.

With so much to do and see, it’s best to stay at least a couple of days while on your motorhome road trip. But without local insight, it can often be difficult to discern between the go-to campsites and those you should rather steer clear of. That’s why we created this helpful list so you can simply pick and choose which suits you best. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in and see which campsite shoe fits your Cinderella motorhome road trip:
Top 10 Best campsites in Bergen
1. Bergen Camping Park
Bergen Camping Park keeps you close to the city (around 20 minutes) while immersing yourself in the natural landscape surrounding the city. The park is also close to Sorfjorden, making it a favorite amongst fishermen.
2. Lone Camping AS
Lone Camping AS is another convenient combo of vibrant city life and the tranquility of nature. This campsite is a good option for a family with kids. It also offers discounts for longer stays.
3. Grimen Motel & Camping AS
Grimen Motel & Camping AS is another site that keeps you close to the city action, but far enough to experience the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding nature. It also offers the additional perk of private beachfront access. This is another good option for a family-friendly stay.
4. Bratland Camping
Bratland Camping is probably one of the most popular campsites here in Bergen, so you’ll be well advised to book well in advance if you’ve got your sights set on this one. Close enough to the city to enjoy vibrant city life, yet far enough to enjoy the peacefulness of nature, this campsite offers a perk that very few others do: free transport!
By purchasing the Bergen Card, you’ll be able to commute between the campsite and the city at absolutely no extra cost. The campsite sits along a lake and offers various outdoor activities on-site, such as cycling, hiking, and jogging. But please note, this is a seasonal campsite and is only open from 15 April to 15 September.
5. Midttun Motell & Camping AS
Midttun Motell & Camping AS is where you exchange a bit of comfort for convenience. This legendary Bergen campsite has been around since the 60s and will get you as close to city action as possible.
However, the focus here is on overnight parking, not long stays with all sorts of amenities and facilities. So, if you’re just looking for a place to sleep after adventuring around Bergen all day, this one’s for you.
6. Motorhome Parking at Bergen Harbor Jekteviken
Motorhome Parking at Bergen Harbor Jekteviken is another great option if you’re just looking for a convenient parking spot so you can explore the city. However, this is not so much a campsite as an annual courtesy.
You see, this opportunity only exists between July and September, when motorhomes and campers are granted permission to park in front and behind the indoor parking garage for 24 hours (but at a fee, of course).
7. Skogtun Camping
Skogtun Camping is for those who’d prefer to be out in nature, rather than explore the city. And with so many things to do at the campsite, it makes for a great little rest stop along your motorhome road trip, especially if you’re a family with kids. The campsite sits on top of cliffs, overlooking the ocean, so “breathtaking views” is the understatement of the year!
8. Bruvoll Camping
Bruvoll Camping is recommended for those who’d like to explore the city for at least one day, but then also focus on other exciting things to see and do around Bergen, since it’s a bit of a drive from the city centre.
If you’re a family with young ones, this is another great option since there’s plenty to do on-site as well, including fishing, kayaking, and visiting the mini-farm with its guinea pigs, chickens, and rabbits.
9. Motorhome Parking at Bergenshallen
This one is exclusive to motorhomes and, as the name suggests, is another convenient overnight solution rather than an unpack and unwind stay. The biggest benefits of Motorhome Parking at Bergenshallen are that it’s super affordable and allows you to explore the city by night without having to worry about getting back to your campsite.
10. Os Gjestehamn Og Bubilparkering
Os Gjestehamn Og Bubilparkering is another exclusive for campervans and motorhomes. This is essentially parking on the dock with electricity. Although not in Bergen itself, it not only allows you to explore Bergen as day outings, but you’ll also find plenty of family-friendly things to see and do in the parking lot’s immediate surroundings.
