Alesund has been credited with being one of the most beautiful cities in Norway. This picturesque port city sits on Norway’s west coast at the entrance to one of Norway’s most famous fjords, the Geirangerfjord. Looking at the city today and its beautiful Art Nouveau-style buildings, it’s hard to imagine that the city was once completely devastated by a fire in 1904. As a popular motorhome road trip destination, many want to know where to stay, so we’ve compiled this handy list of highly recommended campsites in Alesund:

Skjerva Bobilparking

The Skjerva Bobilparking is essentially an overnight parking lot consisting of 57 spaces for campers and motorhomes on the west side of the city center. Although it's not an overnight stay that offers many facilities and amenities, its super convenient location makes it easy to spend all day exploring the city and just hitting the hay at the Bobilparking before carrying on the next day.

Fjellstova Orskogfjellet Camping

Fjellstova Orskogfjellet Camping is roughly 40 kilometers outside of Alesund, located next to a lake. There are 20 motorhome pitches, and the campsite also has hiking trails for those who’d like to explore the surrounding nature.

Goksoyr Camping Runde might be a 2-hour drive from Alesund, but it’s still close enough for day trips, and this campsite is an absolute must during the Puffin season (mid-April to early August). The campsite sits along the coast and offers breathtaking views of the ocean.

Flo Feriesenter Camping

Flo Feriesenter Camping offers camping spots for up to 30 motorhomes, and sits on the shore, near a white sandy beach, where the entire family can enjoy due to the shallowness of the water.

The campsite also offers on-site fishing and boat rentals. If the views of the beach aren’t enough, the campsite also has a backdrop of magnificent mountains. The campsite is roughly 1.5 hours away from Alesund, which means you can experience the tranquility of nature while still being close enough to take day trips into the city.

Located a mere 15-minute walk from the city center of Alesund, this campsite with its panoramic views over the Sunnmore Alps and Storfjord provides the perfect combination of peace and quiet while keeping you close to the action.

If you’re looking for some tranquility by the water (or a great opportunity to fish), Stordal Camping is the one for you. Located just a 40-minute drive from Alesund, it’s hard to believe that such incredible natural beauty is a mere stone's throw away from a bustling city hub.

The Hjorundfjord Camping Site can only be described as an idyllic location. Although a little further away than many of our other campsite options, located nearly 2 hours away, it does offer visitors the chance to camp in absolutely breathtaking scenery while still being able to drive into the city for a day.
