14 days gives you more than enough time to have the road trip of a lifetime here in Norway. Spectacular views, majestic mountains, breathtaking fjords, and plenty of once-in-a-lifetime moments are what’s on the menu if you plan on touring around the country in your motorhome rental soon. But for first-timers, creating a Norway itinerary for 14 days can be confusing, especially with so many incredible things to do and see.

Ā

But don’t worry! We’ve got your back. We compiled a detailed 14-day motorhome adventure for you, which you can either use as is or customize to suit your specific needs and preferences. Let’s see what your 14 days in Norway have in store for you…

Ā

14-day itinerary in Norway

Ā

Please note that the best time for the itinerary below is during our warmer months, when you have plenty of daylight hours at your disposal. This includes the following months: March (11-12 hours), April (14-15 hours), May (17-18 hours), Jun (18-19 hours), Jul (19-18 hours), Aug (15-14 hours), Sept (13-12 hours).

Ā

Ā

Day 1: Arrival

Ā

Driving Distance: 238 kilometers (148 miles), if you’re driving from Kristiansand, of course.

Ā

Driving Time: 3 hours, 38 minutes, if you’re driving fromĀ Kristiansand, of course.

Ā

There are various ways to get to Norway, but whichever you end up choosing, we suggest kickstarting your road trip either from Kristiansand (if you took the ferry) or Stavanger (if you flew in). If you’re starting your road trip in Kristiansand, we recommend taking some time to explore.

Ā

It’s a city known for its incredible architecture and art, also making theĀ Kunstsilo Art MuseumĀ a must-visit. North of there is Stavanger. This will be your second destination if you’re coming from Kristiansund or the official beginning of your journey if you flew into Stavanger.

Ā

If you’ve already begun your journey at Kristiansund, you’re in for a real treat since you’ll be able to take a quick detour to Helleren, where you’ll find a scene straight out of a fairy tale: two old, wooden houses under a gigantic boulder. If you do the detour, you’ll also come across Ana-Sira, a quaint little village with a natural beach, plenty of water, and a swing and slide ready for anyone who’d like to take a dip.

Ā

After that, you’ll continue on your journey to Stavanger, where you’ll stay the night. So, for those who flew in, day 1 will be a bit more relaxing. Except for picking up yourĀ motorhome rental, you can just focus on settling in.

Large campground packed with caravans and cabins on a hillside surrounded by trees on a sunny evening.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Mosvangen Campsite

Ā

Day 2: Taking Stock of Stavanger

Ā

Driving Distance: 0 (but wear comfortable shoes, ā€˜cause you’ll probably be racking up around 10 kilometers/miles on foot)

Ā

Driving Time: 0

Ā

Have a little lie-in this morning – there’s no rush. Later, you can leave the motorhome parked at the campsite while you explore the town (Stavanger is just a 30-minute walk away).

Ā

There’s plenty to do and see in Stavanger for a day, such as admiring the Stavanger street art, going on a Stavanger Walking Tour, and definitely strolling the streets of Old Stavanger (Gamle Stavanger). Also, be sure to grab a coffee and a bite to eat, and just take in the people and vibe around you.

Ā

Overnight at: Mosvangen Campsite (again)

Ā

Day 3: Hiking Preikestolen

Ā

Driving Distance: 286 kilometers (178 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 5 hours, 31 minutes

Ā

People just might think you’re posting AI-generated images with this Instagrammable natural wonder. Preikestolen (aka Pulpit Rock) makes one think of a scene in a movie where a cliff face suddenly breaks in half and disappears into the depths below.

Ā

Preikestolen would look like what would be left behind: this incredibly flat, smooth surface, abruptly stopping with a cliff drop of over 600 meters (1969 feet) with the Lysefjord running below. As you can imagine, from this height, Preikestolen is not just an interesting geological spot, but also offers visitors epic views across the landscape.

Person walking on a wooden boardwalk through a green valley with forested hills and moody clouds overhead.

Ā

There’s just one catch: you’ll need to hike there. It’s an out-and-back trail of 8 kilometers (5 miles) return, and will take roughly 4 hours to complete. Although the hike isn’t particularly challenging, we wouldn’t advise it for small tots (unless they’re in a child carrier backpack).

Ā

Of course, the weather will also dictate whether you’re able to do the hike, so keep a close eye on the Norwegian weather forecast! After your hike, you’ll drive on in the direction of Bergen. However, you will be stopping just short of Bergen for your overnight stay.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Lone Camping

Ā

Day 4: Exploring Bergen

Ā

Driving Distance: 0 (but you’ll be adding some mileage on the soles of your shoes)

Ā

Driving Time: 0

Ā

Today, you can once again leave your motorhome at the campsite since getting to Bergen is pretty easy using public transport (bus and train). Bergen is a beautiful city nestled along the fjord and sitting at the feet of green mountains, lush with trees and other vegetation. On a sunny day, the water sparkles like you’d only expect it would on a photoshopped photo.

Ā

Take some time to explore the city; visitĀ Bergen Aquarium, kayak the fjord, take a stroll through Bryggen, check out theĀ Gamle Bergen Open Air Museum, and take theĀ funicular up Mount FloyenĀ (an absolute must as both a unique experience and some of the best views of Bergen and its surrounding landscapes).

Ā

Overnight at: Lone Camping (again)

Ā

Day 5: Falls on the Way to Flam

Ā

Driving Distance: 137 kilometers (85 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 2 hours, 2 minutes

Ā

You can have a little lie-in this morning, since you don’t have a rushed day ahead of you. Start today’s leg of your motorhome road trip, driving in the direction of Flam. This stretch of the road has beautiful waterfalls, so be sure to stop at Skjervsfossen Waterfall and Voringsfossen Waterfall.Ā You’ll actually be staying overnight near, but before actually reaching Flam.

Aerial view of a tall waterfall beside winding mountain roads, surrounded by dense green forest.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Hemre Campsite

Ā

Day 6: A Day in Flam

Ā

Driving Distance: 46.7 kilometers (29 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 50 minutes

Ā

Today, you’ll explore the tiny village of Flam. Exploring the village is not a massive, event-filled day but more of a relaxing and peaceful day, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. Consider renting a kayak to glide across the water of the fjord, and be sure to take a dip in its bright-blue waters. You’ll also have the option of ticking off one of Norway’s most famous tourist attractions and activities, theĀ FlamsbanaĀ (aka Flam Railway).

Ā

Just a heads up; while it truly is a unique experience, the train is particularly pretty, and you do get a journey with very impressive views, many tend to be slightly disappointed as the price tag doesn’t quite reflect the experience. However, if you’d still like to tick it off as one of those ultimate touristy things to do, you’re more than welcome. After you’re done with your day in Flam, head out to your overnight camping spot.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Naeroyfjorden Campsite

Ā

Day 7: Chilling at the Campsite and Eating at Undredal

Ā

Driving Distance: 48.4 kilometers (30 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 57 minutes

Ā

Today, you’ll spend the morning just chilling at the campsite. If that sounds boring, you haven’t seen the beauty of Naeroyfjorden yet, as it sits next to the breathtaking Naeroyfjord.

High viewpoint over a narrow Norwegian fjord with steep mountains, green slopes, and a cruise boat on the water.

Ā

For lunch, head out to Undredal and enjoy a cheese tasting next to the water and majestic mountains atĀ Undredal Brygge Restaurant. You can explore the little town known for its picturesque aesthetic for as long as you like before heading back to the motorhome.

Ā

Overnight at: Naeroyfjorden Campsite (again)

Ā

Day 8: The Scenic Aurlandsfjellet Route

Ā

Driving Distance: 113 kilometers (70 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 2 hours, 12 minutes

Ā

For the drive today, we recommend an early start since you’ll need to navigate some pretty tricky roads with hairpin bends. It’s not for the faint of heart, so ensure you have the right driver behind the wheel, but, oh, the rewards for those who dare! You’ll be driving the scenic Aurlandsfjellet route, but your first stop of the day will be at the Stegastein look-out to soak in the spectacular views.

Ā

Continue your drive along the Aurlandsfjellet route, and don’t try to limit your quick stops along the way (trust us, there are a few breathtaking spots worth taking a snapshot or two!). If you’re a family with smaller kids, a stop atĀ Laerdal Holiday and Leisure ParkĀ is a must (here, they can expend a bunch of energy at the playground and other activities).

Ā

Laerdal village is also a destination not to be missed, and we highly recommend a guided walk through the historic old town centre. Also, remember to grab a few treats atĀ Fredag & Fretland BakeryĀ before heading to camp.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Steinklepp Campsite

Ā

Day 9: A Day of History and Hiking

Ā

Driving Distance: 6.8 kilometers (4.2 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 11 minutes

Borgund Stave Church in a green valley with misty hills, a cemetery, and a paved path leading toward the wooden church.

Ā

Norway’s stave churches look like something you’d expect a Goth couple or Dracula to live in – it is thatĀ dramatic! That’s whyĀ Borgund Stave ChurchĀ is on your to-do list for today. However, you won’t be driving the motorhome there. Drive to the Vindhellavegen Trail parking lot and leave the motorhome there, so you can officially start your Vindhellavegen Hike.

Ā

Well, hike might be a strong word. You’ll be walking the old horse carriage postal road, and although it gets pretty steep, you definitely don’t need to be a pro. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Borgund (just keep your eyes out for the sign telling you to turn right in the forest).

Ā

Although this hiking trail forms part of a much larger network of trails, we highly recommend taking the same trail back to the parking lot. Even though you’ve been traveling in the motorhome today, you’ll return to Steinklepp for a second night.

Ā

Overnight at: Steinklepp Campsite (again)

Ā

Day 10: Clammering and Beach-Bumming

Ā

Driving Distance: 165 kilometers (103 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 2 hours, 52 minutes

Ā

Time to get your kid on! Book a spot on theĀ BeitoklatreparkĀ climbing circuit (there are both children and adult circuits available). Then you can drive a part of the Valdresflye scenic drive and decide whether you’d like to do another hike after yesterday’s hike. For a short, family-friendly hike (2.4 kilometers/1.5 miles), you can follow checkpoints 1 to 11, which start at theĀ Bergo Hotel.

Ā

Then drive to Bygdin Beach, where you can relax on its rocky sand or take a dip in its crystal clear glacial waters. If you’ve had enough clambering and beach-bumbing for the day, it’s time to head to camp.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Fossen Campsite

Ā

Day 11: Exploring Beitostolen

Ā

Driving Distance: 62.3 kilometers (39 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 1 hour, 5 minutes

Snow-covered cabins in BeitostĆølen with a lone skier on a trail and blue mountains in the distance.

Ā

Just spend the day exploring Beitostolen and its surroundings. There’s no major rush since you’ll simply be spending another night at Fossen.

Ā

Some of the things to see and do in the area are theĀ Beitostolen Ski CenterĀ (only open during the colder seasons), theĀ Chapel of Lights, and theĀ Beitostolen SommarparkĀ (an amusement park open during our summer months). If the weather permits, you can finish the day off with a stroll and a swim at the Furustrand Friluftsbad.

Ā

Overnight at: Fossen Campsite (again)

Ā

Day 12: Storming the Capital (in a Fun Way)

Ā

Driving Distance: 201 kilometers (miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 3 hours, 1 minute

Ā

Today you’ll be traveling to the capital city of Oslo. As you can imagine, there’s so much to do and see here that we already dedicated two days to its exploration, and you’ll probably still have to miss out on a couple of things.

Ā

However, see if you can’t squeeze in the following:Ā Norsk Folke Museum, theĀ Munch Museum,Ā The Opera BuildingĀ (conveniently located right next to the Munch Museum), Vigelandsparken, Vippa Foodhall (for tastes from around the world with an artistic flair),Ā Sorenga Sjobad Public Bathing AreaĀ (as in swimming, not bring your soap and loofah), andĀ The Royal Palace.

Ā

Overnight at:Ā Topcamp Bogstad

Ā

Day 13: Oslo Continued

Ā

Driving Distance: 23.1 kilometers (125 miles)

Ā

Driving Time: 40 minutes

Oslo park walkway with a fountain in the foreground, people strolling, and a tall church spire under a dramatic sunset sky.

Ā

Today, you’ll get another chance at checking off the long list of exciting things to do and see in the capital city before returning to Topcamp.

Ā

Overnight at: Topcamp Bogstad (again)

Ā

Day 14: Departure

Ā

Driving Distance: 55.2 kilometers (34 miles), if traveling to the airport, or 317 kilometers (197 miles), if traveling back to Kristiansand.

Ā

Driving Time: 46 minutes, if traveling to the airport, or 3 hours, 45 minutes, if traveling back to Kristiansand.

Ā

It’s time to head home! Depending on the time of your flight, you can try to squeeze in a couple of last stops. Just keep in mind that you need to ensure you have enough time for your motorhome drop-off as well as the check-in procedure. An alternative to flying out from Oslo is to return to Kristiansand, where it all began, and leave via the ferry (depending on where you’re going).Ā
